Recall – Japanese Flashcards

Privacy Policy

Effective Date: August 25, 2026  ·  Last Updated: August 25, 2026

Short version: Recall stores all your study data locally on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or sell any personal information. We have no servers, no accounts, and no data collection of any kind.

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy describes how Silent Credit ("we", "us", or "our") handles information in connection with the Recall – Japanese Flashcards iOS application ("the App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and being fully transparent about how the App operates.

By downloading or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:

There are no user accounts. You do not sign up, log in, or provide any personal information to use the App.

3. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The App stores the following data exclusively on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us:

All of this data is private to you. If you delete the App, all of this data is permanently deleted from your device.

4. In-App Purchases and Subscriptions

Recall offers optional premium subscriptions and a lifetime purchase option. All purchases are processed entirely by Apple via the App Store using StoreKit. We do not handle, store, or have access to your payment information, credit card details, or Apple ID credentials.

Apple's handling of your payment and purchase data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We receive only a confirmation from Apple that a purchase was made — we receive no personally identifiable information in connection with that confirmation, because the App is entirely on-device and does not communicate with our servers.

Your subscription status is verified directly between the App and Apple's servers via StoreKit. This verification does not pass through any server operated by us.

5. Audio and Text-to-Speech

The App uses iOS's built-in AVSpeechSynthesizer (Apple's on-device text-to-speech engine) to pronounce Japanese words. This feature works entirely on your device. No audio is recorded, captured, or transmitted.

The microphone is not used by the App.

6. Notifications

If you enable daily study reminders, the App schedules local notifications on your device using iOS's notification system. These notifications are generated and delivered entirely on-device. No notification data is sent to external servers, and no push notification service is used.

You can enable or disable notifications at any time in the App's Settings screen or via iOS Settings → Notifications → Recall.

7. Home Screen Widget

The App provides an optional iOS Home Screen widget that displays your daily study statistics (e.g. number of cards due). Widget data is shared between the App and the widget extension using Apple's App Groups (a local shared container on your device). No data is sent to external services.

8. Third-Party Services

The App does not integrate any of the following third-party services:

The only external service the App interacts with is Apple's App Store / StoreKit for subscription and purchase verification, as described in Section 4.

9. Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Because no data is collected by us whatsoever, the App is safe for users of all ages. Parental consent requirements under COPPA and similar laws are inherently satisfied by the App's no-data-collection design.

10. Your Rights (GDPR, CCPA, and Other Regulations)

Because Recall does not collect, process, or store any personal data on our end, most data protection rights (access, rectification, erasure, portability, objection) are exercised directly on your device — not through us.

If you have questions about your data or this policy, please contact us using the information in Section 12.

11. Data Security

Since all data is stored locally on your device, the security of your study data is protected by your device's built-in security mechanisms, including iOS's file system encryption (which is active when your device is locked). We recommend using a passcode or Face ID/Touch ID on your device.

As we do not operate servers or transmit data, there is no risk of a server-side data breach involving your information.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.

Because we do not collect your email address or any contact information, we cannot notify you directly of changes. Material changes will be noted in the App's update release notes on the App Store.
